School Kits for Kids
We thank all of you who sewed school bags, brought in school supplies, and filled the bags with things that children need to attend school – things that we may take for granted: simple pencils, erasers, crayons, and paper. Students in other countries who don’t have money to buy these supplies, and students here in our country who’ve lost everything in a hurricane benefit from our giving. Here’s a note from the organization we sent our bags to:
Dear Members of St. Benedict,
Thank you so much for the 200 school kits you made and donated to the Mennonite Central Committee. For a number of years these kits have been distributed to students in need within the U.S. and around the world.Thank you again.
Jan Beryfeld (Lombard Mennonite MCC rep)
Jan also enclosed an article which states, “...MCC shipped four truckloads of material aid from Pennsylvania to Bayou La Batre, Ala., a Gulf Coast town with about 20,000 people. The shipment included 19,200 cans of turkey, 10,000 blankets, 5,000 school kits, 5,000 health kits and more than 2,000 relief kits.” Isn’t it great to see how St. Benedict has a part in all of this. Thanks again for your generosity.
Crop Walk
The CROP Walk that took place on October 16th was a great success. A few members of St. Benedict walked and others sponsored walkers and we give great thanks for all of you who helped in this effort.
Thanks go to Laura Ostrovecky and Gail Sevilla who headed up our walkers with Esther Simonson, Miranda Hillesheim, Sawyer Hill, Aris Sevilla, and Roland Sevilla joining them. The youngest walkers in this group, Miranda and Sawyer together, raised over $600 through people sponsoring them.
Although we don’t have the exact figures yet of what our church raised, we did do better than last year’s contribution of $800. All of this goes towards helping stop hunger around the world.
