Workshop Cycles
A new education model for
Children’s Sunday School program
This year we’re looking at an innovative way to experience Sunday School that takes seriously the spiritual development of children while providing exciting activities to engage them in a new level of learning and retention. A ROTATION STYLE MODEL means that children work on the same story or concept for several weeks, using different learning approaches in each workshop room they visit.
Workshops may include:
ART, STORYTELLING, MUSIC, COMPUTER GAMES OR
PUBLISHING, COOKING, MOVIES, GAMES, DRAMA OR
PUPPETS, SCIENCE OR GEOGRAPHY STUDIES.
This program is not only fun for children, it’s also very practical for busy adult volunteers. It allows MANY parishioners to interact with the children on a short-term basis and affords some continuity for children who aren’t able to attend every Sunday. It is an educationally sound way of teaching children – involving all five senses and the total spirit of the child!
There are many jobs in this program that we’d like to divide into manageable parts for members of ALL ages in our congregation. We need SHORT TERM teachers to teach ONE cycle in music, art, cooking, gardening, etc., using their special skills or helping to read stories, turn on computers, make popcorn, hand out art supplies, etc.
More information will be coming out about our WORKSHOP CYCLES Christian ed program but we need to get started NOW lining folks up to help in the different workshops. Speak to Courtenay to find out how you can volunteer just ONE Sunday this school year!
