One Sabbath
On Sunday November 23, the Church of St. Benedict will participate in a One Sabbath. Following the example of many Christian, Jewish, Muslim, and Hindu congregations, our worship will focus on the role we can take in eradicating extreme poverty and hunger. This is the first of the eight Millennium Development Goals envisioned by 189 countries in 2000 and supported by the larger Episcopal Church.
This year's One Sabbath season started in October and will run through the first 100 days of the new administration. The goals of the One Sabbath are to raise awareness of needs and resources, encourage action, and facilitate advocacy. Here at St. Benedict we will do that with some changes in our liturgy and the presentation of a gift to Feed my Starving Children.
As we prepare for our own Thanksgiving celebration we will give our attention to the many world wide for whom a primary goal is simply to survive the day. Join us.
Advent Quiet Day with Bishop Chilton Knudsen
The Rt. Rev. Chilton Knudsen, retired bishop of Maine and former vicar of our church, will lead an Advent Quiet Day at St. Benedict's on Saturday, Dec. 6 from 10 am to 3:30 pm.
The day's reflections and group discussion will focus on the four Sunday gospel readings for Advent, which focus on John the Baptist. The registration fee is $20 (scholarships are available, please call the office), and a boxed lunch will be available for an additional fee.
