Christian Education

Godly Play for kids ages 3-7

Second and fourth Sundays, immediately after worship, Godly Play room (green hallway). Children are met at the back of the sanctuary, and are welcomed at the classroom door by a door person. The children sit in a circle on individual rugs to hear their teacher, a trained Godly Play storyteller, tell them a story about God and God’s kingdom. There is time to wonder and play before sharing in a small feast (snack) and saying good-bye. Godly Play meets on the second and fourth Sunday of each month, and we invite all young children to join us. The session lasts from between 45 minutes and 1 hour. During this time, parents are welcome to have coffee and/or participate in adult formation opportunities.

For more information, see the Godly Play official website.

Sunday School for kids ages 8-12

Second and fourth Sundays, 10:20am, second classroom (blue hallway).
Children will join teachers Adam Frieberg, Sarah Allcock, and Rev. Heidi to read and study the bible together, through discussion, skits, and arts and crafts projects. Each child will receive their own “Spark” bible, New Revised Standard Version, complete with zippered-cover and kid-friendly notes in the margins. During this time, parents are welcome to have coffee and/or participate in adult formation opportunities.

Sunday Seminar for ages 13 through adult

Sundays, after worship, third classroom (blue hallway). Come explore and discuss a variety of topics related to living as a person of Christian faith. Come every week or just once. Enjoy a variety of presenters, and free-flowing conversation rather than a lecture format. Make your opinion known, or just listen!

Education for Ministry

EfM gives us an opportunity to dig deeper into the Christian faith, studying the Bible, Church history and theological ideas and reflect on connecting faith with life experiences.   A class meets at St. Benedict on Sunday evenings at 6:30.  For more information, see the EfM website at Sewanee.

Prayer Study Group

This group prays and studies together generally on the second and fourth Mondays from 10-11:30 a.m. at church. We discuss and practice prayer, concentrating for a few weeks at a time on a particular book, selected by the group. Past books include Holy Adventure by Bruce Epperly and The Lord and His Prayer, by N.T. Wright. Membership in this group is open and fluid.
